I knit the first six rows of this pattern last night. I'm going to work on it whenever I get a chance. naptime probably. I sometimes get a chance at lunchtime, but usually kier finishes too fast (or tosses all his food too fast). Ok I really do have to go fold the towels now.
I learned how to knit into the next stitch but didn't get much chance to practice it because Kier came up with the misson to destroy. He managed to help me lose(drop) a stitch-actually two, so I pulled off all of the ones on the left needle, and recast them onto the right needle, now I'm re-knitting them. I am doing this, Shaker ribbed Hat. I do not really like this Caron Simply Soft yarn, I keep getting my needle caught up in the yarn where it's not supposed to be. Also, I cast on 66 (or 68, I forget) stitches because I want this to fit the boys and the pattern said to cast on 80, for child medium to adult small and less if you want it smaller sooo I picked a number and went with it. But, yeah, that is set aside until naptime or bedtime.
The other yarn I got last night was another skein of Peaches & Cream. I started on the grandmothers favorite dishcloth pattern (from dishcloth boutique) and I like knitting with the cotton. I didn't think I would, because of what I had read I guess. And the other yarn is Bernat softee baby, in white.
Obsessed. Look what you all are doing to me with the yarn thing, alright i'm doing it to myself. My husband must hate this, he hasn't said anything yet, I was suprised when I got home and he didn't say anything about the new yarn. He didn't tell me not to spend money when I went shopping so I figured it was OK. He hates when I ask him to tell me ahead of time about purchases but I always feel wierd if I don't do it for him.
Ok everyone is off sleeping now. No more nursing baby in my lap.
I was just chatting with tams and we are going to get together soon. Yay!
The book I got from Half Price Books is called _Kath Dalmeny's World Of Knitted Toys_ It has so many cute little animals and stuff. With the imagination Jer has lately I think if I could get one of the little sets done for him someday when I am better at knitting (well, I don't want mistakes in cool stuff for my kids you know? I'm doing practice stuff for now) he would just love love love these. Yup.
Also, I have decided that with how upset I get at the mistakes i must pay more attention to the little details, like how tight (or not tight) I pull each stitch. And I need to go back when I mess up, instead of being like, Oh well too late, especially if it was really recent. I am thinking it just may pay off for me in the end.
Boy do I like that I have this place to post my thoughts. : )
Robbi I'm waiting on pics of your first few rows!!
I must be totally nuts. I'm posting earlier about the blah mood I am in with knitting, then I start casting on, then I go to the store(s) with my mom & sister and buy a knitting book (the local half price books has such a SMALL selection of knitting books) and yarn at walmart. Sigh. I am so hooked, and reading all the wonderful blogs isn't helping much, actually it is, I love this community.
Also, a cool thing, my mom might crochet again. She seems to be thinking about it anyway. So cool, then I can get to that LYS. hehe.
Ok i'm heading to Knitters Review to check out the latest stuff.
Now i'm in a whole, blah what I did looks awful I shouldn't knit mood.
But i'm going to make myself try one of the face cloth patterns in a bit. Gotta be optimistic. Ugh does it make you sick too? How optimistic I am, I mean. If at first you don't succeed, try try again. Here I go.
I found the other needle. Turns out I had put it away on accident. Oops. Oh well!
The hat is finished, but with mistakes -mostly just loose stitches (DPNs ya know) but also I got flustered while decreasing. Blech. It looks Ok.
I know I shouldn't expect things to come out great just yet anyway, I am still a beginner.
Next I am going to start the blanket. When I get bored with that (I decided to use that basic dishcloth pattern for it, cast on 4, k1 yo k to end) I will set it aside and start the face cloths.
Right now though, it is dinner time! Its still so LIGHT outside, how wierd. How long till I get used to this?
I have been working on the hat to match the blanket I will be unraveling. See... well let's just say one of my needles I was using is missing, I have a set of boye size 8 plastic, but no more sets of aluminum. I have a no-name needle size 8, but I used the needle sizer and it is a bit smaller than the boye. So i'm thinking I will undo the blanket, since I'm not happy with it anyway, and start over. Oh boy. Baby is due end of May, can I do this? (come on bob the builder fans, or moms/aunts/etc of fans).
Back to my knitting. I have music playing tonight instead of stupid shows, fun. My sister seems to have me hooked on Good Charlotte. Oh boy. She was right, I like it. And Dashboard Confessionals as well. Lesson learned? Listen to your little sister!
I am searching the Dishcloth Boutique to see what pattern I want to use for the boys face cloths.
Robbi is learning to knit! I was able to find two of the video/animated technique sites for her, but I KNOW there is another one out there somewhere. I found this one and this one.
Kieran has been asleep for about an hour and I have spent all this time READING about knitting and TALKING about knitting instead of actually KNITTING. Woops.
I got yarn. My husband is going to hate shopping at walmart even more when I insist on picking up yarn everytime we go. hehe.
I mostly got Lion Brand Wool-Ease Sportweight. There was a little book/pamphlet thing of patterns "for the whole family" Well I opened it and the first thing I see is a cute little sweater & hat set for toddlers. I was sold. It is TOO cute. I'll scan the photo later. I grabbed it and checked out the pattern. It said "easy" which sounds about my level right now, and hey I have till November/December to finish (probably december knowing Tx weather). I got the yarns specified, the colors are Green Heather & Blue Mist. I didn't get buttons yet. And of course I had to get some random yarn with no projects in mind, so I can pick out random ones and have fun. I got a couple more skeins of the Lion Brand Wool-Ease Sportweight (i love the feel of it compared to red heart baby sportweight) in black & umm autumn (took me a minute to locate the color name). There is a cute little girls jumper pattern on the label, which may get knit for the same baby who will be getting the blanket this year for her first birthday. hehe. If I still like knitting then, you know.
Ok my yarn is NOT a basketball. Gotta go rescue it from my three year old!
Alright. Where do children get their ideas? Too cute. I also got two little 2 oz Peaches & Cream color is faded denim. That is for more faceclothes for the boys. They like the other one but the red heart stuff is like yeah. I wanted cotton.
And I got the knitting gauge and neelde size thing, a plastic one as was suggested. And some point protector things. I am hoping that will help from stitches being pulled off my needles by the monkeys. And a big mesh bag thing to toss the yarn in and carry from room to room (although, I do mostly knit in this room).
Well. The boys are playing a game with daddy so I am going to use this time for knitting!
I did a little re-design. I'm hoping to get my archives up and running soon too. I DID plan on being in bed early tonight, because we have plans for tommorow, but the baby decided to sleep from 8:30-11ish and then play. Figures. I didn't get any knitting done either, because he either wanted ALL my attention, or wanted to play with my yarn. Anyway, i was quite depressed when I re-did everything in black, but i'm over that now and wanted some pretty spring colors around here. The background is made using a photo of the blanket I am knitting, and the needles & case in the title image were an ebay winning. I have a lot of links to add, I am not sure if I will add everyones blog links to this, or if the ring is enough. Decisions decisions.
I also added a page for all my projects a place for me to keep up with them, and show them off.
Ya know that sock? I turned it into a little hat. Like, infant size. I'll take pics in a few minutes & post em.
Um yeah but the DPNs are a bit big, apparently, the Pattern says to use #4's & well until I get a needle size thing I don't know what these are. My guess is 10? They also seem homemade, but I have never seen wooden needles before, so maybe not. I noticed that hte ankle of my "sock" was a bit wide and decided to just go with a hat. It is about the width, maybe a little bigger, of the hat that was knit for Jer when he was a baby by a woman from church. It didn't fit him, she gave it to us at his "baby shower" and he was six weeks old by then, also she was used to knitting preemie hats, hehe. So this may work for a newborn??? I will have to find one to try it out on! I don't even have a baby doll around here.
I will try the socks again when I get the right size needles. And, of course, there is always the knitting guild meeting later this month, the topic is socks on two circular needles, or something similar to that. I am hoping to make it, I found out about these from the Knitters Review Forums.
I'm going to go get those pictures, including one of how it looks on my 18 month old's head, if he will leave it on long enough for me to snap a photo!
I am up late. Especially considering the clocks jumped forward an hour about half an hour ago. After the baby fell asleep I decided to look up how to knit using Double Pointed Needles, since I have a couple of sets now (yay ebay!) One wooden, size unknown and one plastic, size 8. I kind of jumped into this pattern. I will probably have some difficulty once I get past the 6 inches of knitting. And since I dont know if i'm using the right size needles. . . yeah. Well anyway, it is just to learn. hehe. I am not a perfectionist! So I now have three things I am working on, and I am thinking about trying the baby cap again, the one I tried before and never got past knitting the first part because my guage was way off (I didn't know what guage WAS when I knit it. lol).
I still have SO much to learn and I'm glad I have a small community to learn it in, instead of a huge one like the other lists. You all know who I'm talking about hehe. So I am going to get back to my knitting in the round. Yay. I still don't know how that would work on circular needles, by the way. I do have some, size unknown. Is there a way to find out the size of needles? I thought I saw some plastic thing one time that had little circle holes ????? I will have to look for stuff like that next time we go to a store that might have it. Or just order things online, I will get stuff faster that way. OH my husband told me to order yarn online. Yay.
I really am done boring you now. With my tales of beginner knitter-ness.
